New Fees at OHIM (14.04.2009)
The European Commission has decided to lower the official fees for CTM’s starting from May 1st, 2009. Under the current fee structure, the online filing fee is EUR 750,- and the registration fee is EUR 850,-. From May 2009 on, there will be no registration fee any longer. The online filing fee is slightly increased to EUR 900,- (paper filing will cost EUR 1050,-).
Thus, the costs for trademark protection in the EC will be lowered by 44 % making the CTM’s even more attractive. Furthermore, the individual fee for designating the EC according to the Madrid Protocol will be lowered from EUR 1450,- to EUR 870,-.
Please note that for trademarks, which are filed still in April 2009, only the old filing fee needs to be paid. As the registration date will fall in the regime of the new few structure, no registration fee will have to be paid. Thus, filing still in April will save EUR 150,- (online filing fee in April is EUR 750,-, from May 2009 it is EUR 900,-).
